Had an inspiration about website and blog content for my Communications and New Media course while wandering around in Barnet Marine Park recently. Whenever I move to a place, I check out all the parks to see which ones are best, and this was the first park I’ve been to so far (been busy with the move from Yellowknife).
My idea is to do an in-depth look at parks in Burnaby (20 per cent of Burnaby is parkland according to the city). The city does have some info online, but it is basic and appears to be outdated (it mentions that you can swim at Barnet when there were no swimming signs posted – when did that happen – is it because of the water, or do people actually swim further up the beach? There are almost no photos with these descriptions, even though there would be many great photo ops. I took some scenics at Barnet and will continue to photograph the other parks.
Birding and nature are also interests of mine, so I could go into details about the variety of birds that inhabit the parks.
Research:
- trees
- flowers
- birds
- animals
- marine life

Note: Also video potential, Dragon Boat races would be a fun short.
